The Colorado Department of Transportation is hosting a public open house for the U.S. 24 - Garrett Road to Woodmen Road Project to share the proposed roadway improvements. The open house will take place anytime between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3 in the Falcon Elementary School of Technology at 12050 Falcon in Peyton.

“We are excited to be moving forward with this U.S. 24 expansion knowing this was a crucial next step identified by our team and stakeholders in area improvements,” said Andy Stecklein, CDOT Region 2 Project Manager. The proposed roadway improvements will help to enhance safety, improve operational performance and reduce congestion in this growing community. Improvements include adding one new lane in each direction and a widened median, as well as updating existing at-grade intersections to accommodate the widened highway.

This project is a result of a Planning and Environmental Linkages Study completed in 2018 by CDOT. This study examined conditions and anticipated problem areas along the US 24 corridor in El Paso County, between Powers Boulevard (Colo. 21) and the Town of Ramah. The PEL identified a range of transportation improvements along the corridor and concluded that the area between Garrett Road and Woodman Trail is a high priority for additional lanes.
