On Jan. 10, 2025 at approximately 4:43 p.m. officers were dispatched to the US Bank on a report of bank robbery at 801 Macon Ave. When officers arrived on scene they quickly discovered that the bank was robbed by a male party, who had been last seen wearing a red jacket, white mask and gray beanie. The suspect had left the scene westbound from the bank on foot prior to officers' arrival.
Officers quickly went to work collecting statements, conducting neighborhood interviews and trying to find surveillance cameras in the area. By working with the community, detectives were ultimately lead to information that helped to develop a possible suspect.
Chief Schick announced, “The arrest of Zachary Stanley today is the result of the dedicated work of our Detective Unit, who have each been tirelessly investigating this case since the crime occurred. The success of our detectives in this matter is largely due to the community's cooperation. We received significant assistance from the neighborhood, providing detectives with invaluable information crucial to our investigation. Our team also leaned into the Sheriff's Office, which stepped up and helped CCPD in a big way.
“I am genuinely grateful for my team's efforts, support from Sheriff Cooper's detectives, and the community's response. Today's success is a testament to what can be achieved when we work together, and I feel fortunate to live and work in such a wonderful town.”
The Cañon City Police Department would like to emphasize while this arrest is significant, detectives are still working this case actively so additional information is not available at this time. It should also be noted that any charges are merely an accusation. Mr. Stanley is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
“We would also like to add that during the initial response, officers attempted to use the community notification platform called Everbridge to get information out to the public so they could be on the lookout for the suspect in this case.”
Everbridge is very much like a reverse 911 that can go out to a geographic area to alert the public about significant public safety events. Unlike a true reverse 911, Everbridge requires that people sign up for the service. Only those people that sign up on Everbridge are notified when those notices go out. In this specific incident, a vast majority of the community failed to get notified due to their not being registered.
The CCPD would encourage everyone to sign up for the notifications through Everbridge, so as to be engaged and in touch with what is happening in their neighborhood and community. Anyone can sign up by registering at https://member.everbridge.net/355009111785665/login
