The Colorado Department of Transportation's roundabout project at U.S. 6 in New Castle will begin a winter shutdown. The project went into shutdown on Jan. 31 and will resume construction activity in early March, weather permitting. The project completion is scheduled for May 2025.
The roundabout is fully functional and traffic will be free-flowing once the winter shutdown begins. Temporary pavement will be in place at the City Market and Maverik accesses, as well as northbound Castle Valley Boulevard to the project limits.
When weather allows in the spring, crews will replace the temporary pavement with permanent asphalt pavement. Additional work to be completed next year includes median and color concrete work as well as landscaping.
The schedule for winter shutdown and reopening is weather dependent. An announcement will be issued ahead of work starting back up. If mild weather is forecast, it's possible the project may start back up in February or March.
