When Ginger Clark was voted in as president of the Florence Eagles, she looked around for a project to complete during her year. One of the members suggested she do a fundraiser for breast cancer since Clark had just finished with treatment from it.

This year's Pretty in Pink Tea Party will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Cañon City VFW Post 4061 at 215 Cottonwood Ave.

“It's a personal thing,” Clark said. “I do it with all the help of the ladies.”

It all began about eight years ago when Clark talked to one of the members about it. Between them, they came up with the idea of a tea party and the name of Pretty in Pink. The first one was held in October about eight years ago. They had to skip a year for Covid, but she's been doing it ever since.

“It is all by donations,” Clark said. “Some of my Eagle ladies and now Red Hats supply the sandwiches and the desserts. I've collected 34 teapots. There is no cost.”

To raise funds for the project, Pretty in Pink collects a variety of things for drawings.

In conjunction, the speakers include MJ Miles, of Senior Resource Connection, a person from the Florence Pioneer Museum and a spokesperson from Manna House.

“Every penny goes back out ---- half to Orchard of Hope and half to Sangre de Hospice,” Clark said. “It's a good cause. It's surprising how many people (are dealing with cancer). We usually have between 40 and 50 people.”

She noted everyone is invited.
