With Apple Day coming up all day Saturday, Oct. 5, many organizations are preparing to offer a plethora of activities, featuring this year's theme, “Appily Ever After.”

Up and down Broadway, numerous vendors will offer a variety of crafts, art, produce, food and much more. At 10:30 a.m., the Apple Day Pre-parade will feature school floats, kids, horses, dogs and a lot of fun. At 11 a.m., the Apple Day Parade will feature Al Kaly Shriners, Apple Day Royalty, kiddie floats, politicians and other dignitaries.

Kicking off the day, the Penrose Fire Department will host its annual pancake breakfast from 6-11 a.m. at 207 Broadway Ave.

As has been its tradition, the VFW Post 2788 will serve coffee and burritos, starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 5 in downtown Penrose, followed by lunch at 402 Broadway.

In conjunction, the Penrose Senior Center will serve biscuits and gravy at 7 p.m. at 405 Broadway.

Also, a Fun Run registration will begin at 7:15 a.m., followed by the run at Penrose Elementary for those wishing for a little more strenuous activity.

The Apple Day Book Sale will be held from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Penrose Community Library at 35 Seventh Ave. Historic Penrose postcards and playing cards will be available in addition to a wide variety of books. In conjunction, Sherry Skye Stuart will be selling and signing her books during the day.

Free apple pie slices will be offered in the Pie Tent after the parade, along with a pie auction and announcements of awards from the stage in front of the senior center.

Others offering a variety of food include Kirkwood Presbyterian Church serving its lasagna meals from noon.-2 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and Grant Street. Meals will consist of lasagna, green beans or corn, salad, roll, apple pie, coffee or tea. Meals cost $15 for 8 and up, $10 for 7 and under.

In the afternoon, the fun begins in Penrose Park, featuring a semi-truck and classic car show, bounce houses, a cake walk, wine and cider garden, music and much more.

The day will culminate with fireworks being launched at 8 p.m. from Penrose Park, which is always one of the highlights of the day.
