Although there is not information on this Christmas song, “While You Were Sleeping,” it makes a person stop to think.

Released by Casting Crowns, it begins with “O little town of Bethlehem/Looks like another silent night/Above your deep and dreamless sleep/A giant star lights up the sky/And while you're laying in the dark/There shines an everlasting light/For the King has left His throne/And is sleeping in a manger tonight.”

The refrain continues with “O Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping/For God became a man/And stepped into your world today/O Bethlehem, you will go down in history/As a city with no room for its King/While you were sleeping.”

Casting Crowns then compares it with today's world in the United States with “United States of America, looks like another silent night/As we're sound asleep by philosophies/That save the trees and kill the children/And while we're laying in the dark/There's a shout heard 'cross the eastern sky/For the Bridegroom has returned/And has carried His bride away in the night.”

A contemporary Christian and Christian rock band, Casting Crowns was started in 1999 by youth pastor Mark Hall, who serves as the band's lead vocalist. As part of a youth group at First Baptist Church in downtown Daytona Beach, Fla., he later moved to Stockbridge, Ga., and more members joined. Some members of the band currently work as ministers for Eagle's Landing First Baptist Church in McDonough, Ga. The band has won a Grammy and a Dove Award.

The song was released on the album “Peace on Earth” on Oct. 7, 2008. The words still hold true today, more than ever before.
