She is always more than willing to help citizens, nonprofits and any other organization that needs it. In April, Florence Elks selected Florence City Clerk Cortlyne Huppe as Florence Elks Lodge No. 611 Citizen of the Year for 2023-2024.

Born in Pennsylvania, she lived in Idaho for a short while before she moved with her stepfather and mother to Florence.

“I (attended) Florence School system from kindergarten to high school,” Huppe said. “While I was part of the school system, I was in Student Council, F-Club and the National Honor Society. I did a bunch of different sports, volleyball, basketball and track. Then I went to college in Kansas and played volleyball. I majored in public relations and communications.”

After graduation, she moved to Pennsylvania for a short time before moving back to Kansas, where she earned her master's degree in business administration.

“Covid got my job in 2020, of course,” Huppe said. “I got on through the City of Florence in 2021 and have been here since.”

She was officially appointed as Florence City Clerk in January 2023 and has continued to work diligently at her job, anything from answering questions to attending meetings and performing various other duties, which are too many to name.

The members at the Florence Elks Lodge No. 611 appreciate her faithfulness, integrity and willingness to help those asking questions and needing directions on how to proceed with whatever problems they might be experiencing.
