An arrest was made early morning on May 12, following a shooting that took place in the 2300 block of E. Main St. over the weekend. Troy Richardson (65) was arrested on charges of attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, menacing, reckless endangerment and harassment after he turned himself in to authorities.

On Saturday, May 11, 2024 at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Cañon City Police Department responded to the area of E. Main St. for a reported shooting. Officers found a person that suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers conducted life saving measures until medical first responders arrived and transported the victim to St. Thomas More Hospital. The hospital was able to stabilize the victim, who was flown to Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs.

Detectives with the Cañon City Police Department were called to the scene and were able to obtain a description of the suspect vehicle, which fled the scene following the incident. Early indication was that this incident spurred from “road rage.” Shortly after obtaining this information, the suspect, Mr. Richardson, turned himself in at the Fremont County Sheriff's Office.

After investigating the incident and after consulting with the 11th Judicial District Attorney's Office, Mr. Richardson was arrested on the charge listed above.

The victim is still in critical condition and is expected to survive.
